Sheepskin Slippers care and cleaning instruction

Sheepskin Slippers - Cleaning and Care Instructions

Sheepskin slippers are a luxury for your feet, combining warmth, comfort, and style. They are also sustainable and help reduce carbon footprint.

Wool fibers and leather require gentle care to maintain their softness and insulating properties. Unlike synthetic materials, sheepskin can last a long time if treated correctly.

Sheepskin is natural and delicate. Using harsh detergents or incorrect cleaning methods can damage the fibers, cause shrinkage, or make the slippers stiff and uncomfortable. Therefore, gentle and specific care is crucial.

Steps to Clean Sheepskin Slippers

Preparation

Remove any loose dirt by gently tapping the slippers together and using a soft sponge to brush the leather.

Spot Cleaning

Spot cleaning is effective for minor stains and does not involve getting the entire slipper wet.

  1. Mix a solution of warm water and a small amount of gentle wool cleaner, such as Woolite.

  2. Dip a clean, soft cloth into the solution and wring out excess moisture.

  3. Gently dab the stained area. Do not rub, as this can embed the stain further.

  4. Use a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue.

  5. Allow to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight.

Spot Cleaning Heavy and Greasy Stains (e.g., Mayo, Olive Oil)

  1. Crush white chalk and gently rub it into the leather to absorb the grease.

  2. Follow the steps above for gentle soap spot cleaning.

Washing the Entire Slipper

Sometimes, a more thorough cleaning is necessary. Here’s how to wash your slippers without damaging them:

  1. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and a gentle detergent like Woolite.
  2. Submerge the slippers and gently rub dirty spots with a sponge.
  3. Rinse with clean lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
  4. Press out excess water. In some models, gentle wringing is possible since the soles are also leather.
  5. Stuff with paper towels to retain shape and allow to air dry.
  6. You can also use a washing machine on a gentle cycle with warm water, without spin, and air dry without exposure to direct sun.

Note: Remember to remove wool inserts before using the washing machine. You can replace them with our all-natural inserts through this link:
