Follkee natural sheepskin slippers with leather soles for barefoot-style walking

Natural Sheepskin Slippers with Leather Soles: The Follkee Barefoot Experience

Six years of creating a warmer, simpler and more natural way to walk at home.

Walking barefoot is wonderfully simple.

You feel the surface beneath your feet. Your feet can move, flex and respond naturally with every step. But when the floors are cold, walking barefoot isn't always quite so wonderful.

That simple problem became the inspiration for one of our most popular Follkee products: our Bambosh natural sheepskin slippers with flexible leather soles.

Bambosh was created to combine two experiences that don't usually go together: the freedom and flexibility of walking almost barefoot, and the wonderful warmth of natural sheepskin.

Why a Leather Sole?

The leather sole is at the heart of the Bambosh experience.

Benefits of barefoot walking

Most modern house slippers separate your feet from the floor with a relatively thick synthetic or rubber sole. That kind of protection and structure has its place—but it wasn't what we wanted Bambosh to be.

We wanted flexibility and natural movement.

We wanted your feet to feel the surface beneath them instead of being isolated from it by a thick, rigid sole.

Research into barefoot and minimalist footwear has also made this area particularly interesting. Studies suggest that using flexible minimalist footwear may help strengthen some of the muscles of the foot, although research is still developing and we don't consider Bambosh a medical or therapeutic shoe.

Our own philosophy is much simpler:

Let your feet be feet.

We wanted a slipper that moves with you rather than making your foot adapt to the shoe.

And that's where the combination of sheepskin and leather becomes so interesting.

Like Walking Barefoot—Only Warmer

Walking barefoot across a cold hardwood or tile floor isn't always particularly comfortable.

Natural sheepskin gives us an elegant solution.

The wool surrounds the foot with warmth while the flexible leather sole creates a protective natural layer between your foot and the cold floor.

The result feels less like wearing a conventional shoe and more like wearing an incredibly warm wool sock—with a leather bottom.

Soft.

Lightweight.

Flexible.

And wonderfully simple.

Why Natural Sheepskin?

One of our favorite things about sheepskin is that the wool doesn't need to be added as an artificial lining.

The wool is already there.

In Bambosh, the wool and skin remain together as one natural material.

Wool is naturally breathable and capable of absorbing and releasing moisture, which helps create a comfortable environment around the foot.

That's particularly important in house slippers.

Warmth shouldn't necessarily mean wrapping your feet in layers of synthetic fleece, foam and rubber.

We wanted Bambosh to provide warmth in a much simpler way:

Natural wool around your feet. Natural leather underneath them.

And yes, we think they look pretty cool too.

There's something unmistakably different about a handcrafted sheepskin slipper. The natural wool, suede texture and simple construction give every pair character that is difficult to reproduce with mass-produced synthetic materials.

A Slipper That Changes With Your Foot

There is something else we love about natural leather and sheepskin:

They change with you.

When Bambosh slippers are new, the wool is full and the natural materials have their original shape.

As you wear them, they gradually soften.

The wool settles.

The leather becomes more supple.

And the slipper begins to conform to your foot.

This soft construction can also feel more accommodating around areas where rigid shoes may feel restrictive, including bunions or other sensitive areas.

Every foot is different.

Over time, every Bambosh becomes a little different too.

Natural sheepskin is surprisingly easy to care for when treated properly. If you’d like to keep your Bambosh soft and fresh for years, see our complete Sheepskin Slippers Care & Washing Guide

But We Didn't Create Bambosh Overnight

The Bambosh story started in 2020.

We already knew what we wanted: something warm and cozy like a traditional slipper, but lightweight and flexible enough to provide a feeling much closer to walking barefoot.

Actually getting there took time.

For six years, we have continued to wear, test, adjust and improve Bambosh.

And much of what we've learned didn't come from a laboratory or a marketing department.

It came from experience—and from our customers.

Our Customers Became Part of the Design Process

At Follkee, our knowledge comes from years of working hands-on with sheepskin and leather, crafting products, wearing them ourselves and listening carefully to the people who actually live in them every day.

Customer feedback became an important part of Bambosh's evolution.

People told us what they loved.

They told us how the slippers felt after months of use.

They talked to us about warmth, softness, sizing, flexibility and comfort.

Sometimes a seemingly small comment gave us an idea for the next improvement.

Every season taught us something.

That's why we don't think of Bambosh simply as a product we designed in 2020.

It's a product we've been developing ever since.

From 97% Natural to 100% Natural

One part of Bambosh kept bothering us.

Our previous construction was already 97% natural, but inside the sole was a thin 3% polyfoam cushioning layer.

It served a purpose: additional cushioning.

But it also meant Bambosh wasn't completely natural.

So we kept working.

And for 2026, we finally removed it.

Instead of synthetic foam, the new Bambosh uses natural wool for cushioning.

That seemingly small change allowed us to reach something we had been working toward for years:

100% natural construction.

No polyfoam cushioning.

No rubber outsole.

No plastic.

No unnecessary synthetic fillers.

Just natural sheepskin, wool and genuine leather.

The evolution of Follkee Bambosh: our 2024 construction used a thin 3% polyfoam cushioning layer; in 2026 we replaced it with natural wool.

Sometimes improvement means learning what to leave out.

What Do We Mean by “Grounding”?

We often describe Bambosh as part of our grounding and barefoot-inspired footwear.

For us, grounding isn't about making a medical promise.

It describes the philosophy behind the shoe: keeping its construction natural, flexible and minimal while putting as little unnecessary material as possible between your foot and the surface beneath you.

It's about reconnecting with something incredibly simple:

Natural materials.
Natural movement.
Feeling the surface beneath your feet.

There are broader claims surrounding “earthing” or grounding and potential health effects. We prefer to be careful about those claims.

We aren't trying to sell a medical treatment.

What we can talk about confidently comes from our own experience working with these materials and from years of feedback from people who wear Bambosh.

They tell us about the feeling.

Soft. Warm. Flexible. Lightweight. Natural.

That's the experience we're interested in.

These Slippers Aren't for Everyone—and That's Okay

We think it's important to be transparent about what Bambosh is—and what it isn't.

If you're looking for a stiff sole, substantial arch support or the structured feeling of an orthopedic shoe, Bambosh probably isn't the right slipper for you.

That isn't a weakness in the design.

It is the design.

Bambosh is intentionally soft and flexible.

Think of it as somewhere between walking barefoot and putting on your favorite thick wool socks.

Only warmer.

And with a protective leather sole.

Nature Doesn't Make Identical Copies

Working with genuine sheepskin means accepting something we think is beautiful:

Nature doesn't manufacture identical copies.

Wool thickness can vary.

Texture can vary.

Natural shades can vary.

One piece of sheepskin can feel slightly different from another.

That's very different from artificial fleece and synthetic materials engineered to look and feel exactly the same every time.

We don't see these natural variations as imperfections.

We see them as reminders of what the product actually is.

Swedish Sheepskin. Handcrafted in Poland.

The natural sheepskin used for Bambosh is sourced from Sweden, while our slippers are handcrafted in Poland, in the European Union.

The construction deliberately remains simple.

There is a philosophy behind that simplicity that has increasingly become part of how we think at Follkee:

Use what nature already gives us—and interfere with it as little as possible.

Six Years Later, We're Still Learning

The Bambosh you can wear today isn't exactly the slipper we created in 2020.

Six years of experience changed it.

Our customers changed it.

Working with natural materials changed it.

And our desire to eliminate unnecessary synthetic materials changed it.

Reaching 100% natural construction in 2026 is an important milestone for us.

But it doesn't mean we're finished.

We'll continue wearing our products.

We'll continue listening to our customers.

We'll continue experimenting with natural materials.

And we'll keep looking for ways to make our products simpler, more sustainable and closer to nature.

Because Bambosh was never about creating the most complicated slipper.

It was about creating something that almost doesn't feel like wearing a shoe at all.

Warm wool. Natural leather. Your feet. And the ground beneath them.

Sometimes, simple really does feel better.
